Stranger returns! (Thursday, March 31, 2005)

Ok, it's been a while, so you know the drill... here's a quick run-down of what's happened in the last few weeks or so:

Tonight I finished getting Gentoo Linux installed on my HP NetServer LPr. I love the ports system of FreeBSD, but it's been my experience that the Linux kernel provides better SMP (in short, multiple processor) support. This HP box just so happens to be one that has multiple processors. Gentoo is where the Linux kernel meets the FreeBSD ports tree. One simple command... "emerge (packagename)" and Gentoo will download the source, compile it, install it on my system, and even manage the dependencies for me. How perfect is that?

And I'm tired now. It took me nearly a week to get Gentoo installed and fully working on this particular box. But, I would strongly recommend Gentoo for all of you out there.

long time....no write lol (Thursday, March 17, 2005)

well it has been i don't even know how long since i last wrote something lol. anyways, i am at work right now (i work as an on-call teller for Centris FCU) and i am extremely bored. there is nothing to do and i am the only one back in the teller area. i am at the 156th and maple branch so there isn't much going on and there aren't very many members that come to this one so it is pretty boring. anyways, some new news....i am going to come back to omaha next year and go to UNO. this way i can be closer to my bubba(that is aaron for those of you who don't know lol) and closer to my friends and family. a plus is that i might be able to play the french horn in the UNO band. let me tell you something, playing the french horn is my passion, but it is not something im going to do for the rest of my life...it will most likely become more of a hobby after i graduate but for now, i can't wait to start playing again. i feel like something is missing in my academic life.....i miss playing my french horn. anyways, i don't know if aaron wants you to know this but we are engaged...at least that is what i have started telling people. i think it is about time i told people we were engaged, cuz we are. we aren't planning on getting married until after i graduate...but you never know, things change and maybe we will get married sooner *smiles*. anywho, i don't really know what else to say so i think im gonna close this. i will try and be better about writing and i will keep you all updated on me and aaron. until then......out

It's been a while (Monday, March 07, 2005)

Well it's been a while since I last wrote. Where to begin...

I'm realizing a trend in blogging... I don't have enough time for it anymore. In fact, it seems like I don't have time for anything anymore. I need new time management skills. Perhaps I just need to put everything in a calendar. Hard to say.

Anyways, I'm looking at writing for a website on my favorite subject (Linux, and other FOSS products). Hopefully the owner will be interested in allowing me to do so. Also, this renewed interest in writing is causing me to want to work on my book again... that's right, the open source book I started writing so long ago. I'm thinking of a complete re-write. And as such, I will be looking at alternative license choices. It was licensed under the Academic Free License (if I remember correctly). I've had new ideas recently of how the plot should develop, and the work on the old book just didn't suit this. Anyways...

I think enough rambling for now. I will write more later if I get the chance.
