Hurricane Relief (Wednesday, August 31, 2005)
Anyone remember the tsunami last December? America raised lots of money for their relief. We even had two former presidents go on "tour" to help raise support.
So where is the rest of the world now that America has suffered a major natural disaster? Thousands dead, and that number will probably rise as the days and weeks go on. So where is our aide? Is Jacques Chirac on French TV asking his countrymen to pony up a few euros? It takes a moment of need to find out who your real friends are. How about OPEC? It costs them $4 a barrel to produce and market their oil (who really needs to market oil? It sells itself these days), and yet they charge us $70 a barrel? Talk about price gouging. We should demand they lower prices by $15 a barrel, if not more. Sure, America may be the wealthiest and most powerful country in the world, but there come times when even we need help.
Tomorrow I think I'll go buy a bike. And I'll donate to the Red Cross what I would have spent this month on gas. Down with the price gougers, and God bless the victims of the hurricane.

More than 50 countries have pledged money or other assistance to help Americans recover from the hurricane. Pledges of help included $1 million in fuel aid from Venezuela, Castro offered to send 1,100 doctors from Cuba, generators from Japan, and cash from Australia. Others offered boats, aircraft, medical supplies and blankets. Even impoverished Sri Lanka made a $25,000 donation, a gesture in recognition of Americans' response to last year's tsunami. The world asks how the Americans were able to take food and water so quickly to remote Indonesia and cannot save New Orleans.

To the anonymous coward that tells me to stop watching Fox News... I didn't get any of this information from Fox News... interesting you would think that. Are you a liberal wiener? I do, however, watch Fox News. It's the only fair and balanced "network news" out there. I suppose now you're going to tell me that CNN and the like are much better. What a nerd you are. At any rate, let it be known that since I've posted this, several nations worldwide have offered their support. Bravo! As a few posters have already pointed out... so it seems I stand corrected (or perhaps I spoke too soon). This last "anonymous" thought s/he was being funny... too bad. I was inclined to delete his/her comment, however in the interest of letting everyone know of the stupidity that exists out there, I'll leave it :).
Oh and by the way... FOX NEWS ROCKS!By Aaron and Sarah, at Thursday, September 08, 2005 6:27:07 AM
