Long time, no updates. (Tuesday, February 15, 2005)

Well, I'll admit, it's been a while since I've written last. I've been so busy, between work and building my business that I haven't had much time for anything lately. But here's a quick update:

Beanie's OS (FreeBSD 5.3) got replaced by Debian 3.1 (Testing, aka Sarge). It's ready to be my backup server, but currently is just using up electricity lol. I read a 7 page article on BeOS today, and I am suddenly reminded of those dark days in 2000, before the release of WinXP, I was suffering with Windows 98 SE (Sucky Edition, lol). A BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) every half hour kept me angry as hell. I was looking into alternatives. I experimented with Linux at that time (Manrape (aka Mandrake) 7.1), but was quite dismayed at its... well... for lack of a better descriptor... ugliness. Back then, even though I could fly on a command line, I was more interested in eye candy. And there wasn't much back then, everything was blocky and ugly. I then stumbled upon BeOS, and while very interested in it, I never attempted to install it. Then Windows XP was released, I bought it, upgraded, and forgot what a BSOD looked like. It was fine for what I wanted/needed... back then.

A few years and Linux distros later, here I sit. Reading a 7 page article on the history of BeOS, and considering hunting down a version to install on Beanie to test it out. After all, most people that raved about it were raving because they had ancient hardware (like Beanie, but don't tell him), and the OS performed like a champ.

Anyways, I'll keep you updated on what I do. Maybe I'll be impressed, but from an initial assessment, I can already tell there will be a few things I will miss:

* Multi-user system.
* Having a package manager with nearly 15,000 packages available for FREE download.
